Not sure how long your manuscript is in standard pages? Divide the character count including spaces by 1,500. In Word you find it under Review and then Word Count. As a rough guide, one standard page holds about 250 English words.
What does editing cost for a typical novel?
| Manuscript | Proofreading | Editing |
|---|---|---|
| 60,000 words (approx. 240 pages) | approx. €720 | approx. €1,440 |
| 80,000 words (approx. 320 pages) | approx. €960 | approx. €1,920 |
| 100,000 words (approx. 400 pages) | approx. €1,200 | approx. €2,400 |
These are estimates. The exact price depends on the actual character count. You get a precise, binding quote before we start.
Editing or proofreading: which do you need?
Proofreading makes your text correct. It fixes errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, but does not touch your style or story. It is the right choice when your plot and characters have already been tested by beta readers and several rounds of revision.
Editing makes your text better. We look at whether your plot holds together, whether your characters act believably, whether the pacing works and whether your story delivers what readers of your genre expect. Editing includes proofreading in a second round. For debut novels and for genres with clear reader expectations, editing is almost always the better investment. What we look at when we edit
- Plot and structure: plot holes, pacing, turning points, the middle that sags
- Characters: motivation, consistency, development, distinct voices
- Romance arc: chemistry, believable obstacles, the dark moment and an ending that feels earned
- Worldbuilding: consistency of rules, magic systems and settings, without info dumps
- Point of view: head hopping and unclear perspective switches
- Style: repetition, filler words, telling instead of showing, clunky dialogue
- Genre expectations: tropes, heat level, content warnings and reader promises

Do you edit explicit content and dark themes?
Yes. Dark romance and explicit scenes are part of our everyday work. We edit them with respect and without judgment.
How long does editing take?
Depending on length and availability, usually two to six weeks. Ask early if you have a fixed release date.
